I have added a few songs to my iPhone this week. I broke down and got the Darius Rucker CD - it is just ok. I downloaded Flo Rida's hit Right Round after his performance on American Idol. I finally ripped my Alabama CDs - these guys are amazing. Anyway, a few of these songs made it into my Jukebox this week.
1. Right Round - Flo Rida
Ok, I have no idea what he is saying, BUT using the Puff Daddy way of remixing songs that were popular is ingenius. Every one knows You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) by Dead or Alive, therefore, Flo's song already has mass appeal. Don't hate on him P. Diddy made an entire empire based on this strategy.
2. 'N Dey Say - Nelly
I am all about the hip hop this week - and I am all about the songs that bite off others songs. Nelly borrowed a little from Spandau Ballet's True for this song...no idea why it wasn't a bigger hit in America - I love it.
3. Here Comes Goodbye - Rascal Flatts
Chris Sligh co-wrote this song for RF - he was on American Idol a few seasons ago. The song is awesome...
4. The Long Goodbye - Brooks & Dunn
I know they say if you love somebody you should set them free, but it sure is hard to do, it sure is hard to do. I know they say if they don't come back again then it's meant to be, those words don't pull me through. Cause I'm still in love with you. I spend each day here waiting for a miracle, but it's just you and me goin' through the mill, climbin' up a hill.
5. Amarillo Sky - Jason Aldean
I am becoming a huge fan of Jason Aldean. I have heard a lot of his songs, but She's Country really stuck with me...which caused me to give him another look...and I really like his music.
6. White Horse - Taylor Swift
I have reason why I like this song...maybe because I like ballads, maybe because I like songs full of emotion...and most of her songs are bubbling with emotion. Oh, don't look at me like that for liking Taylor Swift...her concert at Staples Center sold out in less than 60 seconds. I am not the only one who likes her. I may be the only male over 30...man that sucks!
7. I Get Around - Tupac Shakur
Songs remind me of places and times...and this song is high school with my buddy Daniel. I think this song came out right after 'Pac left Digital Underground...anyway...the song is tight. Oh, and I had to butch this post up a bit after #6.
8. It's Not Over - Daughtry
I have no idea how - holy cow I can't remember the guys name - won American Idol. [He was the old guy with gray hair...somehow beat Katharine McPhee...ahhhh, when I used to like AI...I digress] Daughtry was clearly the best singer from that season...which also featured Chicken Little (the kid who looked like the cartoon). Oh, also Kellie Pickler and Bucky Covington (both of whom have had moderate success since Idol - PS...Kellie attaching to Taylor Swift was a stroke a genius...not necessarily for Taylor, but definitely for Kellie). I still remember Chris rocking out to Bon Jovi early in that season...and thinking this guy is awesome. My second favorite Idol performance of all time...only behind that beat boxing guy. I should really google this stuff before I post...but I won't.

Shuttin Detroit Down
So, I have not been blogging for a while. I am not sure why...probably because I was busy with work, busy with family, etc... Every time I sat in front of my computer to write about the stupidity of banks, or the insanity of the economy, or how ridonculous it is that Carrie Underwood (oh, by the way...I love Carrie) won Entertainer of the Year on the CMAs - Kenny Chesney is by far the best performer in country music...I guess we shouldn't be surprised, the last time she was in a popularity contest on TV she won (American Idol) - I just couldn't find the patience to write anything down. I am going to work on putting together 5 posts per week from here on out (I haven't even posted a Repo List in a few days).
Anyway, I was watching the GAC Top 20 countdown today and John Rich was on. He has a new single out - Shutting Detroit Down - it is a scathing commentary of the bailout. He obviously is not in favor of the bailout...the video is very poignant. I am going to post the words and a link to the video.
Funny side note...I was watching the Comedy Central Roast of Larry the Cable Guy and one of the roasters was Toby Keith. One of the other roasters said, "Toby Keith it must be hard sitting around waiting for another terrorist attack so that you can have a hit record." The reason I mention it...Toby Keith's biggest song or career defining record probably will be Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue...Alan Jackson will be known for Where Were You When The World Stop Turning...and John Rich may be best known for writing this song!
This song has the best line in it..."well, pardon me if I don't shed a tear/There selling make believe and we don't buy that here".

NCAA Tournament 2009
The first day of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. A very good day. As a fan of basketball, I love to watch basketball...and there is NO better day to watch basketball than the opening Thursday and Friday of the Tourney (32 games in 2 days - no better sporting event...well, except maybe when the Trojans are playing for the NC).
I love to pick a bracket...however, I am a huge fan of the upset. They are difficult to find...for example the fact that a 12 seed has upset a 5 seed in 21 of the past 25 seasons...so it is a virtual lock...hello Western Kentucky (they are no stranger to the 12 upset of 5 - since they a 12 last year beat Drake the 5), BUT who on earth can decide which 12 seed is going to do the deed.
I picked Illinois to take care of business...before I knew their starting point guard was injured...but Western Kentucky took them out. Despite needing Illinois to win for my bracket...I was pulling for Western Kentucky because my love of the upset super cedes my bracket!
[Side note: thanks to UCLA for beating VCU - VCU was the trendy upset pick this year...by the way I think I have grown a lot over the years...in years past there was no way that I could have picked UCLA to win anything (insert any number of insulting comments)...let alone have two of my buddies be UCLA fans, or graduates or whatever they are...]
Oh, I forgot to mention how absurd it is that Barack Obama has the time to show us "Barack"etology! I think he has a lot of other issues that need his attention. Issues that are a lot more important than the NCAA tournament. I don't know, like, companies taking tax payers money and paying out $100s of millions of dollars in bonuses or, unemployment rates that are soaring through the roof or, the slumping dollar or, the crumbling world economies (I guess I could have said economy), etc...
Good luck Trojans...is it possible that 3 out of 4 10 seeds could win in the same season?
